What a great way to spend a few hours on a Sunday afternoon. Jacob treated us to a fun, creative jazz ensemble workshop that had us trying out different intros, outros, tempos, styles, and impromptu arrangements. Jacob’s gentle, encouraging approach made it easy to experiment without worrying about getting it “wrong.” Everyone came with a great attitude, and lots of musical curiosity—and, best of all, good music was made! To top it off, everything was also super well organized, with Jacob having everything set up so that the downbeat was right on time!

The inaugural Jazz Ensemble Playing Workshop!

WHEN: September 6th 2026 from 2:00pm-3:30pm

WHERE: My home studio in Montréal // near Metro Jarry // H2R

The concept of this workshop is simple. Students playing any instrument can sign up and come over to my home studio where we’ll play together and discuss various topics pertaining to jazz ensemble playing.

Students of all levels are welcome, but you must have a basic understanding of jazz ensemble playing. If you can keep a steady beat and play a Bb blues, you’ll fit in just fine :)

The ensemble will be completed by professional jazz musicians in Montreal. For example, if we receive registrations from a pianist and guitar player, then I will provide a professional bass player to complete the ensemble.

The workshop may be conducted in English, French, or a combination of both depending on the students’ preferences.

The workshop may be conducted in English, French, or a combination of both depending on the students’ preferences.
